TokoTranslate

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026-07-29 (v1.1.0)

What this extension does

TokoTranslate translates the Tokopedia.com interface into English, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean or Hindi and shows IDR prices converted to your currency (USD, RUB, CNY, JPY, KRW or INR).

What data we collect

None. TokoTranslate has no account, no login, no analytics, no telemetry, and no servers of its own. We never see your data.

What the extension sends to third-party services

To do its job, the extension makes two types of network requests directly from your browser:

  1. Google Translate (translate.googleapis.com). Text from the Tokopedia page that is not in the built-in dictionary, and your search query when you press Enter with search translation enabled, are sent to Google Translate to get a translation. The result is cached locally on your device for 24 hours so the same string is not sent again. Only the text itself is sent: no URL, no user identifier, no other context. This is the same public Google Translate endpoint used by Chrome itself for its built-in page translation feature. Google's handling of this text is governed by Google's own privacy policy.
  2. Open Exchange Rate API (open.er-api.com). Once every 6 hours, the extension fetches current IDR exchange rates. No personal data is sent.

What is stored locally on your device

The extension uses Chrome's local and sync storage to keep:

  • Your selected language.
  • Toggle states (translate search, show price).
  • A cache of previously translated strings (entries expire after 24 hours and are cleaned up automatically).
  • The most recent exchange rate snapshot.
  • Anonymous usage counters for the one-time review prompt (number of translated page loads, first-use date, whether you dismissed the prompt). These counters exist only on your device and are never transmitted anywhere.

This data never leaves your device, except as part of Chrome's normal Sync feature for settings, which is controlled by your Chrome account settings, not by us.

Pages opened by the extension

  • After the first install, the extension opens a one-time how-to guide on dmitry.kim in a new tab.
  • If you uninstall, Chrome opens a feedback page on dmitry.kim.

These are regular web pages on the developer's website; like most websites they use standard web analytics. The extension itself sends no data to them.

Permissions we ask for and why

  • storage. To remember your language choice and cache translations.
  • activeTab. Basic interaction with the current tab from the popup.
  • host_permissions for tokopedia.com, translate.googleapis.com, open.er-api.com. To read and translate the Tokopedia page automatically, fetch translations from Google Translate, and fetch exchange rates.

We do not ask for permission to read your browsing history, access cookies, or run on any site other than tokopedia.com.
