How to use Tokopedia in English
Tokopedia is the easiest way to get almost anything delivered in Indonesia, from phone chargers to furniture. One problem: the site is in Bahasa Indonesia, and its English switch translates only the top menu. This guide shows how expats and travelers shop on Tokopedia in English, with prices in dollars.
Tokopedia's English switch covers only the menu
At the very bottom of tokopedia.com there is an Indonesia / English switch. It changes the top menu and a few labels, and that is all: filters, sorting, product pages and the buy buttons (+ Keranjang, Beli Langsung) stay in Indonesian, and product listings are written in Indonesian by local sellers. We checked this in October 2026. Chrome's built-in translator does not fill the gap: Tokopedia's pages are marked translate="no", which tells translation tools to leave them alone, and the site keeps loading new Indonesian text as you search, filter and check out. And typing an English search query returns weak results, because the catalog is indexed in Indonesian.
The fix: TokoTranslate, a free Chrome extension
TokoTranslate is a free extension built specifically for Tokopedia. It keeps the whole interface readable end to end:
- Translates menus, product pages, cart, checkout, payment methods, seller chat and order tracking into English.
- Shows the price in USD (or EUR, GBP, AUD and more, your pick) next to every Rp price, with a live exchange rate.
- Translates your English search query into Indonesian when you press Enter, so Tokopedia search actually finds the product.
- No account, no ads, no tracking by us.
Setup in 30 seconds
- Install TokoTranslate from the Chrome Web Store.
- Click the extension icon and pick English in the Language list.
- Open tokopedia.com. The interface is in English and every price shows USD, or the currency you picked under the language.
FAQ
Does Tokopedia have an English version?
Only for the menu. At the very bottom of tokopedia.com there is an Indonesia / English switch, but it translates just the top menu and a few labels. Filters, sorting, product pages and the buy buttons stay in Indonesian, and sellers write their listings in Indonesian (checked in October 2026). To shop comfortably you still need a translation tool.
Why doesn't Chrome's built-in translate work well on Tokopedia?
Tokopedia marks its pages translate="no", an HTML attribute that tells translation tools to leave the page alone. Tokopedia is also a dynamic app: search results, popups, cart and checkout keep loading new Indonesian text. Search queries typed in English return poor results, because sellers list products in Indonesian.
Is TokoTranslate free?
Yes. TokoTranslate is a free Chrome extension with no ads, no account and no tracking by us.
Does TokoTranslate work on the Tokopedia mobile app?
No. Chrome on Android does not support extensions, so the mobile app and mobile browser stay Indonesian. Use TokoTranslate in desktop Chrome or any Chromium browser on a laptop.
Can I see Tokopedia prices in US dollars?
Yes. TokoTranslate shows the converted price next to every Rp price on the page, using a live exchange rate. English defaults to US dollars; euros, pounds, Australian dollars and five more currencies can be picked in the popup.
